this recipe is as written by Aunt Wowie
Chicken Wings
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
mix these together is a sauce pan and heat until sugar dissolves
Cut the tips off of 24 to 30 chicken wings (I always used the 5 lb bag of wingettes that they sell in the freezer section) lay in pans flat...spoon heated sauce over them and bake 325 degrees for 1 1/2 to 2 hours... baste often and turn them over often....
Aunt Wowie said she got this recipe from her sister in law,Bessie Farrell.
side notes: make sure you do not hurry this recipe, make sure they are really gooey and crisp....also I have before used a half cup of corn syrup instead of the brown sugar. Using this same exact recipe, adding green onion and fresh chopped garlic, and fresh ginger, you can marinate flank steak, or any meat and bbq, for a really good teriyaki flavor.... good to use as a marinade for any meat when making shish k bobs. (also don't omit the ginger, it really adds a flavor profile that is necessary) and you can use low sodium soy sauce and garlic powder instead of salt....doesn't take anything away for the flavor....
the ingredients are simple and few...chicken, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic salt and ginger....
place frozen or not frozen chicken wings in baking dish....I use the bottom of my broiler pan and cover it with foil... you won't be sorry you took the time to cover it, promise....
in a saucepan place the brown sugar....
and the soy sauce, water, garlic and ginger...warm till sugar is melted....
pour over chicken wings.....evenly and coat wings....place in oven at 350 and cook for 1 and a half hours....turning several times during cooking....
check this out! I dare you to wait to eat one...they are best right now just out of the oven ....and now you know why you cover your baking dish with foil.....it's a good thing, says Martha...they are so good and gooey and crisp and flavorful...these are great for an appetizer for the holiday's or a football game or make a meal with some rice and a vegetable for dinner....
Oh my these are so tasty!!!!! absolutely no one can resist them!!!
Cheers to Happy !!
