This is Mom 85 years ago.....making a trip with her parents from Oklahoma back to Washington state....Mom's birthday was the other day, we had a huge birthday bash for her....She is a young 85....as some of you remember reading here, our beloved mother, had been very ill in August of last year and we were very afraid she was going to join Dad, but she is a strong Swede...she chose LIFE....and man are we so very happy she did....one of my cousins in Sweden said it best, on facebook, as we were going through all this....VIKING....and that she is... here is a few photos of the special day....
here she comes, entering her birthday party, the room was called Miss Molly's Speakeasy....(my dad's name for her) the theme was 1925....roaring 20's...
that is a sly look on her face....check out her cigarette holder......
well over 150 family and friends were their to celebrate Mom's birthday....
this was the 'bar area' since in the 1920's they had prohibition....we served keg root beer....
and oh yes, there was some gambling going on....it was '21'
this was sisters Mary and Trina....(in costume)
myself, Mom and Trina....(again in costume)...(I don't want anyone to think we dress like this normally)
Mom and brother Perry and cousin Susan.....(again in costume)
ton's of hugs going on......
there was 1920's music and lots of speeches.....
Aunt Dorothy gave mom a t-shirt that said VIKING on it.....very appropriate...
my niece Emily made Mom's cake...isn't it beautiful....and tasted so good.....
a little blurry but she is blowing......making a wish....(hope she wished I would win the lottery)
this is Mom, who is the oldest, and her brother Ed, sister Dorothy and sister Janet....please insert sister Evelyn in your mind....she could not be there....
here is us with our Mom....left to right, Trina, Mary, Debbie, Mom, Perry, Donnie, and Chuck...again please insert sister Candy....she also couldn't be there.....
and the Grand Dame herself .......Maudine.......
Cheers to Happy !!
Tears of joy! What a wonderful event it was, and we are so, so fortunate to still have her here with us. I, for one, am grateful that she is a Viking! (aka "tough ol' Swede") :)
