Super easy to make, you can make it from scratch or from canned pears and a gingerbread mix....totally up to you...
First you peel about 3 ripe pairs.... slicing them thin.
the same skillet...it is a 9 inch slillet and works perfectly, when I was a young child, we had a pan very similar to this one. It was a little larger and orange on the outside. We used that pan for everything, my favorite that mother made in the pan was Roast beef Hash. But we always made our Spice cake in this orange fry pan, and frosted it with buttercream frosting. ahhhh the yummy memories!
you add the pears and cook gently on a medium heat about 20 minutes, until the pears are cooked and the butter/brown sugar sauce has reduced.
Like this, all carmelly and good!
you put the cake batter right on top of the pear mixture .....
Bake in a 350 oven for 35 minutes and ....
Then here it is out of the oven, cool 20 minutes before turning out!
Then get ready to turn out onto a cake plate....
put the plate over the pan and get ready to turn!
upsy daisy, here goes nothing......
there we go, a little sloppy....
There I moved it aound the plate until it was straight!
TaDa!!!! it's done!
mmmmmm!!!! oh so good....
Pear Gingerbread Upsidedown Cake
5 tablespoon butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
3 pears, sliced
put in a pan and cook on medium heat 20 minutes or until pears are soft and carmel sauce is reduced, either transfer into 9 inch cake pan or cook in skillet...you can make the below gingerbread recipe or use the Betty Crocker gingerbread cake mix, just as good really and you don't have to buy all the different spices and molasses....
Gingerbread
1 3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup malasses
3/4 cup sugar
8 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
Whisk the flour, spices, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt together in a medium bowl and set aside.
Beat the molasses, sugar, and melted butter together in a large bowl with a mixer on low speed until combined, beat in the egg and buttermilk, add the flour mixture. Mix until the batter is thick about 3 minutes.
Pour the batter over the pear mixture and put in the oven for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
Cool for 20 minutes before turning out onto plate, serve warm or cold with whip cream.
Enjoy !!!!
Cheers to Happy !!
