As far back as I can remember, Grandma Swalander had nasturtium's in the old cistern in the side yard of her house. I can close my eyes and smell the flowers and see the variety of colors now, oranges, yellows and reds. Grandma called them kitchen flowers and she would encourage everyone to pick some to take home and put in the kitchen!

  1. I remember with such pleasure Grandma's cistern gardens. Right near the apple trees. We would pick the flowers and eat "green apples". Always we would be told we would get a stomach ache. Never happened though. We just loved being there on the farm.

  2. I always loved Gramma's and Grampa's farm! Farmville has nothing on those two! You could hear the cows lowing in the bottom pasture, the chickens clucking in and around the place, the smell of the root cellar, and of course the beautiful and fragrant flowers everywhere - tame and wild! Gosh I'm so happy to remember it all and so thankful to have had such wonderful grandparents!
